It’s Barbie’s birthday. What a wonderful day!

Barbie and Ken were both human, living in the Real World, and married (see The Story of Ken). Barbie was 19 years old. She had always been 19 years old. She was created at 19 years old. But today, wonderful day, was her 20th birthday! It was June 15, two weeks after their wedding. Ken was created to be 10 years older than she was, so he was 29 years old. His birthday was two months after hers.
Barbie went to work as usual that morning. She had no suspicion that the evening was going to be so special. Ken went home early to get everything ready. He set the table with a pink tablecloth and two pink china plates. He put down real silverware, shining crystal glasses, and two wine glasses. He got a whole chicken out of the refrigerator and sprinkled it with spices, then squeezed some lemon juice on top. He put it into the oven on a roasting pan along with two sweet potatoes. He made a green salad adding lots of vegetables: lettuce, celery, cucumber, red onion, tomatoes, then put on an oil and vinegar dressing. He sprinkled croutons on top and set the salad bowl on the table. He went and got dressed in a special outfit – a handsome red suit jacket and pants with a gray shirt underneath the jacket. Then he sat on the couch and waited eagerly for Barbie to come home. When the timer went off he took the chicken out of the oven and set it on the table to cool off. He put the sweet potatoes on each plate and set out a butter dish with butter. He put a vase with pink and white roses at the end of the table. In the water he sprinkled a little sugar so the flowers would last a little longer. In the center of the table he put two tall white candles in holders, one for each decade of Barbie’s life. He lit the candles and dimmed the overhead chandelier.
The door jiggled as Barbie was starting to open it with her key. Ken rushed to the door and opened it. Barbie stared at him. “You look incredible! What’s the special occasion?”
“It’s your birthday, babe,” Ken answered.
“You remembered!”
“Of course I remembered.”
She hugged him. She was wearing her pink and white summer dress and looked hot and tired.
“Sit down.” Ken pulled out a chair for her.
She sat down, took his hand, and kissed it.
He smiled and got her a glass of water with ice as well as a glass of white wine. He held up his glass of wine. “To Barbie!”
“To me, I guess,” she said.
They drank the wine down.
“Here’s your present.” He handed her a small wrapped gift.
She opened it. It was a beautiful opal necklace. The pink stones shone with an inner flame. “I love it!” She hugged him.
Ken put the necklace around her neck and fastened it. “You look beautiful. And now, for dinner,” he added. “What part of the chicken do you want?”
“The breast, please.”
He cut off the breast and put it on her plate. He gave himself a leg and a thigh. He passed the salad to her and she took a big spoonful, then passed it over to him.
They ate quietly, stopping every now and then to smile at one another.
When they were finished Ken put the plates in the dishwasher. He washed the salad bowl, put the rest of the chicken in the refrigerator, and left the roaster pan in the sink to soak.
“You certainly are handy,” Barbie said.
“I should hope so.” He took the birthday cake out of the refrigerator. It was a vanilla cake with pink icing and had 20 candles. “I baked a pie too. I had time, and it was fun.” He got his raspberry pie from the counter. The crust was fluted.
“I can’t believe you did all this,” Barbie said, smiling.
Ken lit the candles. He sang her the birthday song. “Happy Birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday, dear Barbie, happy birthday to you. Now blow them out.”
It took her three tries.
“Did you make a wish?”
“Of course.”
“What was it?”
“I’m not going to tell you,” she said.
Ken got out more plates. He cut a piece of cake and one of pie and gave them each a helping.
“This is delicious,” Barbie said.
When they were finished, Ken said, “Let’s dance.” He got up and turned on some music. It was “What Was I Made for” from the Barbie soundtrack album. It played again and again.
They stood together and put their arms around each other and did a slow dance. Barbie leaned her head against his shoulder. “I love you,” she said. “Thank you for making this day so special.”
“The best parts yet to come.” He lifted her up in his arms and carried her into the bedroom, where he gently set her down on the bed.
“Wait. Let me get into something more comfortable.” She took some garment from her dresser and went into the bathroom.
Ken sat on the bed waiting. When Barbie came out he gasped. He did not recognize that piece of lingerie.
“I bought it for myself for my birthday,” she said, modeling the pink satin garment for him.
He held out his arms and she came to him. She sat beside him and took off his suit jacket, threw it onto a chair. She unbuttoned his shirt and ran her hands down his chest, stopping to pinch his nipples. He moaned. She kissed his stomach. He undressed her, kissing each part of her silky skin that was uncovered. Then he pulled her to him and kissed her lips passionately. She kissed him back, her arms around his neck. He pulled off his pants, then pushed her down onto the bed, her head on the pillow, her long blonde hair flowing around her. He stroked her hair, then fondled her, while she caressed him. Then he entered her. They moved together becoming more and more excited till they both reached a climax. They pulled apart, resting for a bit. Then they did it again, with Barbie on top of him this time. Afterwards, they lay in each other’s arms, talking quietly.
“How old are you going to be on your birthday?” Barbie asked.
“I’m an old guy. I’ll be 30.”
“That’s a major milestone. We have to celebrate!”
“I thought we’d celebrate our wedding and go somewhere special on our honeymoon. You decide where.”
“I love that idea!” Barbie said.
They fell asleep dreaming wonderful dreams of Paradise.
